The Cave of the Winds is an absolute must-see
for any visitor to Colorado Springs. As most of our attractions are, the caves
are accessible year-round. In fact, the caves stay the same temperature (54
degrees) no matter what season. The activities the Cave of the Winds offers are
for any age, and everyone is guaranteed to have a lot of fun during their visit.
Colorado Springs Girl
Find important facts about Colorado Springs and all it has to offer.
Garden of the Gods
As a Colorado Springs resident, Garden of the Gods is more prominent in my day to day life than any other attraction we offer. I go there in the early mornings to say hello to the birds, take pictures of frost and get ready for my day. If something is troubling me, I will often find a quiet spot in the park to mull over my feelings. Short hikes and walks throughout the park are a quick way for me to fill my happiness cup. When visiting Colorado Springs make it a priority to drive through Garden of the Gods, stop at the Nature Center and have lunch at their trading post.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Cheyenne Mountain
Zoo is a part of my childhood memories, and I am fortunate enough to make it a
part of my children’s memories also. The location of the zoo is a sight to see and makes your visit an educational trip about our mountains, in addition to the animals. Throughout the years, the zoo has
made vast improvements. The animals have become family to us because we have
seen many grow from babies to adults. While visiting Colorado Springs, make a point to go and visit our zoo.
Seven Falls
Seven Falls is an amazing set of waterfalls that cascade 181 feet down a box canyon. Visitors gain access to the top of the falls by walking up 224 stairs or taking an elevator. The falls will light up at night with multicolored bulbs and are very enchanting. The attraction has a self guided audio tour to give facts about the geology and history of the scenery that surrounds you. There is a café that serves a basic lunch, snacks and drinks. Keepsakes of your visit can be bought in three different shops, and there are memorabilia displays to enhance your education.
Cheyenne Canyon and Helen Hunt Falls
I go to visit
Cheyenne Canyon and Helen Hunt Falls at least two times a week. I use the
canyon to picnic, hike, bike and get away from the business of city life in general.
The history reverberates on the canyon walls. The creek that meanders through
the canyon is peaceful as it babbles along. A natural amphitheater is hidden in
one of the canyons, and there are also many bridges and arches built over the
last century.
Wildlife
The list of wildlife that makes a habitat of our mountains is wide and varied. Whether you are walking in the urban areas of downtown, taking a stroll through Garden of the Gods or camping in Pike National Forest, many species might show their faces. Some can be enjoyed, and others we have to be pretty cautious during a sighting. Some animals are so elusive a resident can live here for years and never see them.
Settling In...Or Not
The coffin races are over, and the aspen trees are now bare. We have weathered through two mild snowstorms and have winterized our homes. This does not mean we are planning to nest the winter away snug in our homes - no way!
